As someone who has tried many teachers, methods, approaches, and different paths in Hifz, and who once thought memorizing the Quran was the hardest task and became afraid to start again, I can now say that I have finally chosen the right teacher. My main problem was that I used to spend a very long time memorizing new surahs, but by the next day, I would forget everything I had worked so hard to memorize. None of my previous teachers ever asked me to review the surahs I had already memorized, nor did they pay attention to them, and even when they did, I didn’t know how to prepare for that, so I would always give up halfway. Eventually, I reached a point where I had so much free time that I could have dedicated my whole day to the Quran, but I kept making excuses, telling myself, “I’ll memorize the Quran day and night when the time is right, but not now.” However, after I shared everything I had been through with my current teacher, they pointed out all the mistakes I had made and managed to reignite my confidence and motivation to memorize. Comparing my current state to before, the difference is like night and day. Using the wrong memorization methods and approaching Hifz incorrectly had caused significant psychological trauma for me. My teacher taught me, even if only a little, to spend part of every day with the Quran, to benefit from its blessings, and most importantly, taught me techniques to avoid forgetting what I had memorized.
